People who ride at Hellyer, and would-be riders at Hellyer have indicated that we need an internet venue that offers more information about the programs at Hellyer beyond the schedules and results that we can find at ridethetrack.com and the discussions at the NCVA Google Group.
This blog called NorCalTrackCycling is a place for information and the exchange of ideas, comments and similar about what's going on at Hellyer Park Velodrome, in San Jose, California, and the people who ride there, whether they are a World Champion in the making or an eight year-old kid who just likes riding up and down the banking.
And this is not my blog. Nobody wants to read a bunch of stuff about me or what I think about clinchers vs. sew-ups (sew-ups for racing, clinchers for training) or why there aren't more good track sprinters (they're playing football), or whether Britney Spears would be a better sprinter or pursuiter (who cares?!!).
If you have an article you'd like posted here, please email it to me and I'll post it, as long as it's informative and in the interest of making Hellyer Park Velodrome a great place to be. The articles/posts will have a comments section at the bottom so that people can ask questions or comment about the idea, program, or event.
In the end, I hope that more people who haven't ridden on the track decide to give Hellyer Park's Velodrome a try, and that when anybody goes to the track they'll find a variety of programs and events that will be safe, challenging, and fun! Seeya out there!

I have talked up Hellyer for years to buddies who might be interested in getting on the track. My concern is that the rental bikes are not the best. Are new or better bikes on the way?
Is there an elete level Jr program for my kid to move into?
I didn't see answers to the last 2 questions. Regarding rental bikes, the NCVA typically buys about 6 new bikes each year. Keeping them in good shape is a lot of work and sometimes they get behind but generally the rental bikes are quite good. For example, when you have riders who are not mechanically adept installing and removing pedals, the crankarms get stripped pretty often. About the advanced juniors program, Farid Abraham runs a Tuesday afternoon juniors only program that has produced some exceptional racers. The program is not running right now as the track is closed but should resume around June 1st.
approximately how many people ride on the velodrome each year?
